Consumer Protection
Consumer protection is looked after by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The CPSC has the responsibility of protecting consumers from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from more than 15,000 types of consumer products under their jurisdiction.
Consumer product failures cost the nation an estimated $700 billion each year through deaths,
injuries and property damage.
Over the past 30 years, the work of the CPSC has contributed to a decline of 30 percent in the number of deaths and injuries associated with consumer products.
Some of the recent product recalls the CPSC has initiated include:
- Blower/Vacuums
- Gas Fire Pits
- Snow Throwers
- Exercise Machines
- Notebook Computer Batteries
- Bicycles
- Kids Bath Sets
