Food Poisoning

According to the Centers for Disease Control food poisoning causes an estimated 76 million cases of human illness in the United States each year. Five thousand people die and more than 325,000 people are hospitalized annually as a result of food poisoning.

Common food related illnesses include:
  • Campylobacter
  • Salmonella
  • E. coli
  • Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome
  • Hepatitis A
  • Listeria
  • Norwal Virus
  • Shigella
Food borne illnesses have unique symptoms, but there are certain symptoms that are common to most such illnesses.  These include:
  • Abdominal cramping
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Body Aches
  • Fatigue
According to the US Department of Agriculture "Microbial pathogens in food cause an estimated 6.5-33 million cases of human illness and up to 9,000 deaths in the United States each year. Over 40 different foodborne microbial pathogens, including fungi, viruses, parasites, and bacteria, are believed to cause human illnesses.
