Tire Defects, Tread Defects and Explosions

The National Highway Transportation and Safety Board (NHTSA), the government agency responsible for regulating the transportation industry – is responsible for investigating accidents that may have been the result of blowouts, tread separation, and other tire defects.   These incidents are all too familiar in recent years with recalls of Bridgestone and Firestone tires, as well as problems surrounding certain Goodyear Tires.

It has been well documented that tread separation can reduce the ability of a driver to control the vehicle, especially when the tire failure occurred on a rear tire and at high speeds. There was a much greater likelihood for death, injury, and crashes resulting when the tread separation occurred on an SUV rather than a pickup truck.
